Synopsis

Castalia was born with the power to control luz, a rare, powerful type of magick which allows her to heal others. While prestigious, many with the gift don't live past 30. With such a high toll for her magick, she has resigned herself to a life as an apothic where she does not use her power. When abominations attack her town, she is offered a rare opportunity to train at the illustrious Vivarium to fight the looming threat of necromancy.

As the Black Mage of the Spire, Lysander is on the brink of discovering the source of the prince's mysterious chronic illness. His research into old magick has reached a dead end and he must find a new path. When the new initiate is assigned as his assistant, his mistrust turns into an obsession to discover who she really is under her perfect academic façade.

Together they must work to save the ailing future king. While under the mage's tutelage she uncovers buried secrets about the kingdom and herself. The more Castalia learns from Lysander, the stronger she grows and the less time she has left.
